Long Island Lizards defenseman Nicky Polanco has donated the cleats and gloves that he wore during the July 17th MLL All-Star Game to the All-Star jersey auction, which is currently being held on the League's website to raise money for Special Olympics.
In conjunction with All-Star Game, the MLL and New Balance are offering 36 autographed, limited-edition Chinese Dragon themed jerseys that were worn by the MLL All-Stars during the game. Each player autographed his jersey following the conclusion of the game. All jerseys are being auctioned online with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Special Olympics.
Polanco's autographed custom Limited-Edition Chinese Dragon Warrior Speed Burn 2.0 cleats were designed and created by the studios of Brent Robinson and Katrina Johnson for SUM of ALL THINGS SHOE & APPAREL.
The shoes were designed specifically for Polanco's All-Star game appearance and are a reflection of his lifestyle in lacrosse. The cleats are two-toned in white and navy representing "day" and "night". During the "day" before a game, Polanco is all about intensity and his passion for lacrosse, leaving a trail of fire everywhere he goes. This gave way to the outside of the cleats having flames on the side. Contained inside the red streak is a repeating phrase that happens to be Polanco's favorite quote: "Never back down!" In addition, "Speed Burn" adorns the cleat in Chinese characters.
On the navy side representing the "night", there is a powerful red Chinese dragon that is divided in half from one cleat to the next. When both shoes are together and both feet open up, you can see the mighty dragon flying through the midnight sky. The back of the cleats, when placed together, feature Polanco's jersey number: 41. The 2008 MLL All-Star Game marked the fourth straight All-Star appearance for the two-time MLL Defensive Player of the year. He has appeared in all ten games for the Lizards this season, collecting 24 groundballs. Fans can bid on Polanco's All-Star jersey, cleats, and gloves, as well as jerseys of the other 35 2008 MLL All-Stars, online at http://www.majorleaguelacrosse.com/fanzone/auctions/ through August 15th. All proceeds will go towards the 2010 Special Olympics National Games, which will take place in July in The Western Conference All-Stars defeated the Eastern Conference All-Stars by a margin of 31-15 in front of 10,124 fans at INVESCO Field at Mile High. It was the first victory for the Western Conference versus their Eastern Conference counterparts in two All-Star meetings. Both teams combined to score an All-Star Game record 47 points, eclipsing the previous record which was set in the 2001 LacrosseStar Game.
